Community Speed Watch
A number of local volunteers have come together to form a community speed watch group for Thornton - can you help?
Published: 20 July 2024
The speeding problem in Thornton, specifically Main Street, Strathore Road and Station Road continues to be an ongoing danger to pedestrians in the village. All roads in Thornton have a speed limit of 20 mph.
We’ve seen some fairly severe accidents in the village in recent times, from a car being flipped on its side to a pedestrian having an exceptionally lucky escape on a zebra crossing, all down to individuals choosing to flout the law regarding speed limits.
Working with our neighbours in Coaltown of Balgonie, the group are undertaking their training with Police Scotland before commencing deployments in the village. If you are concerned about the speeding in our village and you’d like to get involved or even just find out more information about how it works, with no commitment, please email the team at thorntoncommunityspeedwatch@gmail.com
The Community Speed Watch initiative will operate in addition to Police Scotland speed monitoring deployments.
