New Defibrillator for the north end
The community council have arranged for the acquisition of a new PAD (Public Access Defibrillator) for the north end of the village.

Thornton Community Council have worked with St. John Scotland to acquire a 3rd PAD for Thornton through their generous Community Defibrillator Scheme.
The scheme supports community groups to improve access to PADs in their area by heavily subsidising the cost of the PAD and external wall cabinet.
Local business Joint2Joint Spray Services LTD generously provided the contribution required to purchase the PAD and wall cabinet through the St. John Scotland programme, with the charity making up the rest of the lifesaving package worth almost £2500.
Our local Butcher’s – Thomson of Thornton have generously agreed to have the PAD installed on the external wall of their shop, keeping the cabinet heated in the colder months maintaining the battery condition to ensure it’s available to anyone who needs it 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
This PAD, along with the units fitted at Thornton Public Hall and Thornton Bowling Club are registered with “The Circuit” which is the database used by the Scottish Ambulance Service to direct first responders to a nearby PAD if there is one available. The location of all registered PADs can be found on the Defib Finder website: Defib finder – find the defibrillators nearest you.
We are waiting to hear from Fife Council if they will support us by providing the necessary infrastructure at a location to the south west of the village in order to install a 4th PAD to increase coverage further. We’re hoping this will be facilitated by the same arrangement with St. John Scotland, utilising funds raised by customers of the Station Hotel during various fundraising events held by the pub.
We’d like to thank Joint2Joint, Thomson of Thornton & St. John Scotland for making this additional piece of lifesaving equipment available to our community.
Although PADs are designed to be used by anyone and provide automatic voice guidance when in use, a basic CPR and PAD training session will be arranged with St. Johns shortly.
Details of all PADs in the village are available on our dedicated Defibrillator page.
