Party in the Park – 2024….Done!

Yesterday, Thornton Hibs and Thornton Community council joined forces to hold our first Party in the Park

Published: 30 June 2024

A number of months ago, Thornton Hibs and Thornton Community Council got together to start planning for Party in the Park.

Mark Bruce (Thornton Hibs), Heather Paterson, Jean Laird, Izzy Anderson & Euan Ross (all Thornton Community Council) formed a sub-committee to plan the day and put everything in place.  This included:

  • securing funding from the Middle Balbeggie Wind Farm Community Fund in collaboration with Foundation Scotland, who generously provided all funding required to hold the event
  • Liaising with Fife Council to arrange event licences
  • Arranging catering from Hug-a-Mug for the afternoon tea
  • Organising entertainment, World of Parties bouncy castles and games
  • Arranging our ice cream and burger vendors, Mr. Softy Fife & Edin-Burgers
  • Multiple trips to Costco and Amazon orders for prizes and goody bag content
  • Organising market traders
  • The list goes on……

Thanks also to Cook’s who provided a skip free of charge for our rubbish!

Thankfully it appears to have been worth the effort!  Everyone who attended (approx. 450) appears to have had a great afternoon, and although a bit windy, we enjoyed a warm day with plenty of sunshine.  We couldn’t have asked for a better venue, with the Hibs football park providing a safe and secure enclosed area for kids to play.

The day wouldn’t have been possible without all the helpers who assembled.  These were, in no particular order of fabulousness:

Thornton Hibs: DJ Stuart Gray, Mark Bruce, Tracy-Anne Bruce, Angela Glancey, Ricky Smith, Trisha Smith, John Laing

Thornton Community Council: Heather Paterson, Jean Laird, Izzy Anderson, Euan Ross, Christine Ross, Ray Duncan

Community Volunteers: Ang Pat, Hayley Ross, Margaret Curran, Christine Wilson, Linda Evans

We also have a special thank you for Lynne Nicholl from our neighbouring community council in Coaltown for providing first aid cover for the event and Erin Dewer for taking most of the photographs on this post.

It was great to see so many people from our community come together to have some fun.  We hope to make this an annual event and would love to hear ideas from people on other things we could consider arranging for our village and increase our sense of community.

Thornton Community Council’s AGM will be held tomorrow – Monday 1st July at 7pm in Thornton Bowling Club.  Please do join us to have your say about our community!
